Dr John Ives has been in private dermatological practice, in Port Elizabeth, since 1990. He matriculated at Grey College in Bloemfontein, and then obtained BSc (Chemistry & Biochemistry), MBChB and MMed (Dermatology) degrees at UFS. The MMed specialist degree was obtained cum laude.  Dr Ives is a member of the Dermatological Society of South Africa, the Dermatological Surgery Society of South Africa and is an International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.  He has an interest in all things dermatological, but spends the largest portion of his time treating skin cancer and inflammatory skin conditions.  Numerous courses, both national and international, have been attended.  He was one of the first doctors in this country to use lasers in the treatment of skin disease and for cosmetic problems.  His pioneering use, in this country, of botulinum toxin for hyperkinetic facial muscles is well known.   

His interests include cycling, motorcycling, wildlife viewing, bird watching, music and reading. He has a Christian life view and remains astounded at the incredible designs and beauty in nature.

He is married to Lesley and has two children, Kenny and Candice.
